Dr. Chris McCabe
Professor Christopher McCabe is a health economist and Principal Investigator on both the Precision Medicine Policy Network and PACEOMICS. He is the Executive Director and CEO of the Institute of Health Economics (IHE) and Professor at the University of Alberta, where he previously held a Capital Health Endowed Research Chair. Dr. McCabe also served on the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health Care (CADTH) Health Economics Working Group, which recently authored the 4th Edition of the CADTH Guidelines for the Economic Evaluation of Health Technologies. Prior to his work in Canada, Dr. McCabe was appointed to the Chair in Health Economics at the University of Leeds, and went on to be the Founding Director of the Academic Unit of Health Economics within the Leeds Institute of Health Science. He has also held Chairs in Health Economics at the Universities of Warwick and Sheffield.
Dr. McCabe’s primary research interest is in the development of efficient research and development processes for biotherapies and devices in the context of value based reimbursement market access hurdles. He has published over 100 hundred peer reviewed papers, book chapters and monographs. He has also acted as a consultant for public and private sector organizations in Europe, North America and Australasia; most notably with NICE in the United Kingdom, with whom he had various roles between 2003 and 2011.
